“Organic production is good for everyone”

In its latest report (06/30/22), the French Court of Auditors (Cour des Comptes) reiterates the benefits of organic farming, particularly in terms of public health and the environment, and notes that the development of organic farming is the best way to achieve a successful agro-environmental transition.
Organic farmers work to preserve water and air quality and increase local biodiversity rather than using synthetic pesticides. Organic farming is the most strictly monitored form of agriculture, and the corresponding “AB” public label is regulated by law, thus offering the guarantee of a thriving planet.

Eating organic represents a nutritional transformation and does not imply an additional cost: this is achieved by making different consumer choices that are more beneficial for our health and for the planet.

Compagnie Léa Nature supports the organic industry

A catalyst for food autonomy and a sustainable planet

Compagnie Léa Nature has set up several initiatives and tools to support the development of high-quality organic supply chains that promote a specific area of production, origin and know-how, thanks to a dedicated fund, multi-year contracts, harvest pre-financing, the development of fair trade both north-north and north-south, and the French designation of origin.

Most of the company’s products are manufactured locally, with 21 production sites that were developed on a human scale, to ensure supply chains are as close as possible to the fields : 65 to 70% of all raw materials are purchased in France.

Compagnie Léa Nature also contributes to the ecological transition thanks to its foundation and its 1% for the Planet member brands, a donor fund that supports environmental nonprofits working to facilitate organic farming.

A fund dedicated to structuring organic sectors: flexible and effective leverage

In 2018, Compagnie Léa Nature created a fund dedicated to structuring organic supply chains in France and internationally with an allocation objective of up to 5% of its annual profits. This fund has contributed to building up responsible supply chains via the production of organic raw materials in France, for example durum wheat, sweet corn, buckwheat, and legumes, and via the development of organic and fair-trade supply chains abroad for coconut oil, argan oil, teas, etc.

Multi-year contracts: a long-term relationship with organic farmers

Here are a few examples:
• Developing and growing lemon thyme under an exclusive agreement with a group of growers, and creating our Lemon Thyme Herbal Tea.
• Growing thyme and rosemary through a cooperative producing organic aromatic and medicinal plants located a few kilometers from our tea and herbal factory.
• Planting organic apple orchards in southwestern and southeastern France.

Pre-harvest financing: sharing risks by making advance payments to suppliers

Pre-harvest financing of Sicilian organic lemons helps the industry get through the current rise in energy prices.

The development of French fair-trade supply chains and of the French designation of origin

Over the past few years, Compagnie Léa Nature has been developing and co-building 17 supply chains in France, including 10 with fair trade labels : durum wheat, soft wheat*, legumes* (lentils, chickpeas, dried beans), buckwheat, hemp, green vegetables* (green beans, peas, butter beans), corn*, Haute Provence small spelt*, Camargue rice, prunes*.
Our decision to develop our supply chain in France has resulted in our offer of 101  finished products with a French designation of origin :

  • 72 of these are under the Jardin BiO étic food brand, with a target of 150 products by 2025 (out of a total catalog of 635 products)
  • 2 are under the Biosens dietary supplements brand
  • 27 Vitamont juices come with a French designation of origin out of the total catalog of 147 products
  • 29 “Label France” finished products are offered by Ekibio
  • 29 Priméal product references are 100% French

Compagnie Léa Nature’s environmental philanthropy orientations include ecological and solidarity-based agriculture

Thanks to the company’s environmental philanthropy through its 18 brands that are members 1% for the Planet and its Foundation, Compagnie Léa Nature also supports the development of organic supply chains: 40% of funded environmental projects are aimed at facilitating organic, ecological, and socially responsible agriculture.
The Léa Nature/Jardin Bio Foundation, for example, has helped Terre de Liens acquire 24 hectares of farmland to support the implantation of organic farmers and cheesemakers in the Charente-Maritime region.
